A bedtime story about rehearsing trouble before it comes
The Owl Who Practised Falling
A very short story about a calm day, a soft net, and learning to stand by practising the fall.
-
In the castle, everyone was afraid of falling.
No one wanted the day something might go wrong. -
“The way to stop fearing the fall,” said the wise old owl, “is to practise it — on purpose.”
-
So they chose a calm, clear day — not a stormy one — and laid soft nets below.
-
Then, gently, the owl let the little Princess tumble — just to see what would happen.
-
And they found it: a step that wobbled, a rope worn thin — the weak spot, discovered in safety, not in a storm.
-
So they mended it, and practised the catch — again, and again, until it was easy.
-
Then, one night, the real storm came.
And the castle did not panic — it had done this before. -
Now the little owls are not afraid to fall, because they know exactly how to stand back up.
And the owl, one blue eye and one crimson, kept watch.
Goodnight.
